2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Reception
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure informed staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a distinct vision.
The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
The news follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete message from the president's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to consideration and reimagined the title with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our fans.
The belief in this project strengthens every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of 31st Union. Following several months of conversations, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
His guidance and experience in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having devoted the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to keep seeing the evolution of the game in the weeks to follow.
David

Game Details and Concept
Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a early access event. Then, 31st Union described the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the description explains. "Face the opponents with new abilities, stakes, and obstacles that evolve every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and hope your group can achieve the highest spot? The option is in your hands."
Project Ethos lacks an confirmed debut schedule or consoles, but enthusiasts can expect further news as creation advances.
